Also known as Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS), & Fibromyalgia. The bottom line is, if you have chronic pain that has not been effectively healed, then it is entirely possible that you are experiencing the effects of a Tension Induced Physical Pain Disorder. The cause is repressed emotional energy. This is quite a spectacular thing! Make sure you get this.

How you feel emotionally is a direct indicator of what you are thinking, as well as how you feel physically is also a perfect indicator of where your thought processes predominantly are! Remember that one of the basic rules of these pain disorders is that the pain is a "signal" to become aware of what you are thinking.

It is your thoughts that create inner tension, stress and anxiety. This is why it is vital to know your unique thought processes. As you think a certain way over and over and over (fear, anger, striving, controlling) you are creating.
Your emotions or feelings are telling you what you are creating within you by how you feel. You may feel stressed, tense, or depressed or wrung out or scattered. Look back at what you have been predominantly thinking about.
You may feel sluggish, sore and stiff and have a nagging pain in your back, butt or neck. Same guidance system. Remember your emotions are physically located in your body. They guide you by letting you know how you feel (frustrated-out of controll and sore/stiff/pain).

What you are thinking and how you feel is Always in direct correlation with each other. In fact they are a perfect match! Always.

Instead of trying to change how we feel...(go to the doctor, take meds, perform a new stretch, or wrap up our body parts) OR (find a new job, change a relationship, make more money, buy more stuff, move somewhere better)

All of these things may temporarioy ease how we feel, but will never fix it. So instead of trying to change how we feel, the only way to permanently feel better and end our pain (emotionally and physically) is to change or switch how we predominantly THINK.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com

What you are feeling right now is the point of your...

What you are feeling right now is the Point of your Attraction
What you are feeling right now in this moment, in your thoughts, your emotions, and your body, is the point of your attraction.

This is the Law of Attraction and it is absolute truth in every situation and condition in your life.

It is also the most accurate representation of what you are experiencing with this pain disorder.

------- -------- ----------- ----------- -----------

What you are feeling right now in this moment, in your thoughts, your emotions, and your body, is the point of your attraction.

If you are feeling frustrated, worry, anger, controlling, striving, resentment, closed-off, shut-down, repressed, depressed, or why can't I just figure this out and be well, then you are attracting into your life, your experiences and your body more of the same.

Worry is repression and attracts more closed off repressed experiences and feelings. Anger is repression and attracts the same. Striving, yes striving is repression and attracts more of the same....In this disorder, the same means conditions of pain, soreness, fatigue, ect.

Many people know and understand this concept, The Law of Attraction.
It is also the dynamic that is playing out in TMS. Why? becasue tension induced pain is a thought induced pain disorder. Emotional energy gets stuck-blocked--repressed in our body and through our intelligent nervous system blood vessels restrict oxygen flow and the result is pain sensations of various degrees and diff. varieties...thank you Candace Pert.

We know it, we pretty much understand it, then why is it so challenging to reverse/eliminate? We get what we focus on, what we attract more of is what we are thinking about consciously or unconsciously. Old habitual, conditoned thought process just keep racing through our minds.

So one of the big keys to reversing this pain disorder is to Stop attracting the repressing thoughts/conditions which are bascially producing the pain. We must get our focus/attention/thoughts off of "I am in pain" "how do I get rid of this" "who can get rid of it for me" "what medications/treatments/exercises can end this" type of thinking and we have to also get our focus/attention/thoughts out of (worry, anger, controlling, frustration, striving, would of, should of, could of, ect.) type of thinking. The focus in both of these thought patterns is attracting more of the same, which means it is creating pain in your body or maintaining pain, but in No Way is it reversing the pain cycle. And that is the case even when you know, understand and Accept the Tms diagnosis.

So we eliminate as much as we can one way of thinking and focus and we must then Consciously generate new thoughts which produce new feelings.
We want our body to feel good, heal, be healthy right? So your focus must be on openness vs repressed, accepting vs controlling, I'm getting better, I can do this vs how is this going to end.

This is where it can get tricky. we want to feel good but we end up focusing on how bad we feel. We get more of what we focus on. If we want to feel good, we have to generate thoughts that help us feel good or at the very least a little bit better. Does it feel good to worry? Does it feel good to always be in a controlling mindset? Does it feel good to be in frustration or anger about this and that? Of couse not, and then you add in the fact that these type of thoughts are generating and maintaining pain sensations for tms'ers you get a double whammy.

You can begin to switch your thoughts and feelings when you make the choice to become conscious of what you are thinking about....if it doesn't feel good switch the thought to one that feels better. You can do this and it gets easier the more you do it without trying to control the outcome and without putting pressure on yourself to do it perfectly.

It works because it is the law of attraction in process.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

wisdom from caroline myss

Our emotions reside physically in our bodies and interact with our cells and tissues.'
Caroline Myss
---------------------------------------------

now put the process of oxygen deprivation into this very significant statement...as our emotions get stuck and blocked think about how this effects your muscle and nerve tissue!

now with that knowledge, understand how important it is to begin to observe your emotions and what a big, huge deal it is to open up this emotional energy vs keeping it bottled up (repressed) within our system.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Become aware, observe, and stand up.

Become aware, observe, and stand up.
It is a simple and challenging practice to begin the reversal of this pain disorder.

Become aware of your inner voice(s)....yes you have more than one!

Listen to your "worry" voice, your "angry", your "enthusiastic" voice, listen to

the voice that wishes your life was different than the way it is right now.

That's easy right? We hear these voices all the time. They're always there.

Now, make it your practice while observing this inner chatter to become aware of how you are feeling when a particular voice is present.

Next, have it your intention to interupt the voices that are causing you pain (worry, complaining, anger, resenting, wishing, if would of, could of, should of, ect.)

Now actually interupt that voice...yes talk to it, tell for example, that worry voice, that you are not putting your energy into worry, question this voice, have a genuine dialogue with it, and then keep doing whatever you are doing, and do it without that worry voice present.

This is a big, huge deal....you first recognize or become aware of your chatter. You listen to it, and then you interupt it by talking to it. And then and this is the great big huge part, you keep living, keep doing what you are doing but you do it without that voice (part of you) being active...This is what it means to experince the mystery or the unknown....you experience your life without having that (worry, anger, resentment, ect.) with you for comfort. This is what it means to experience emotional energy that usually gets repressed.

This is how you Stand Up to your unconscious, comfortable repression activities like worry....You stand up and right in front of that part of you that likes to worry-- you do whatever it is you are doing and you do it without the worry....simple? yes, challenging? oh yeah, allows you to experience? great big yes. stops repression? absolutely.

This is the practice! This should now become your discipline. This is where you want to spend your energy/focus...This is how you reverse this pain disorder. This is also why you can't just read a book or talk to a therapist or read and write on message boards and heal from this disorder....It takes
a great deal of discipline, focus and willingness to change from your comfortable--"please just give me a shot, drug, treatment" and into "okay, this is what I have to do"...and then relentlessly this becomes your practice while forgetting the (when, how soon, are you sure) this works BS. Do it.

It works!

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Control the Cause and let the circumstances be...

Control the Cause and let the circumstances be...
In this intelligent physical pain disorder we can effect change, we can reverse the pain strategy by controlling our focus and attention.

We can control/choose/initiate/respond with our thoughts and actions.

We cannot however, control the effect or circumstance that is responding to our focus/attention. Accept this and you can immidiately release tension and anxiety of will this work, how is it working, when will it work B.S.

We make the choice to be more present and aware. We make the choice to be more open, trusting and do our work up-front, not behind the scenes. We make the choice to respond without (anger, jealousy, resentment, ect) which are repression activities. We make the choice to go inside with our feelings instead of entertaining "injury think"--who is going to fix me, how is my body going to be repaired B.S..We make the choice to stop the physical treatments that are only treating symptoms and "feeding' the pain strategy.

So that is our part. That is where our focus is.

The effect, the reversal of the pain strategy, the elimination of pain symptoms is now out of our control. We have done our part. We now stay the course of our new practice of being, allowing, accepting, openness, trust.

Just as the pain symptoms arrived in our body/life with help from our chronic, repressing thinking patterns, they too will leave as we change/switch away from our chronic, repressing thinking patterns.

It is not our job to communicate when, how, where this is going to end. Accept that. Our job is to effect the change in our life through our practice of being open and non-repressing. The bio-chemical process will follow on its own accord.

If you want to add more stress/tension/anxiety to your life/body--try to control how when and where the pain should be gone. Just because we now know what is happening in our mind/body does not mean we have learned the reason for it being in our life. Is it possible we need to learn patience, endurance and/or trust?

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

All of your physical and mental stress...

"All of your physical and mental stress is rooted in issues of survival - concerns involving the lower three chakras"
C. And how much this fear generates inner tension within your system.

Examine right now areas of your life that you operate "behind the scenes". Investigate why you choose to live this way instead of "upfront, open and honest" with your self.

Are there certain personal relationships that you are involved in that you are more comfortable trying to "control and/or manipulate" from behind? Why is that? What about you feels the need to act this way?

Are there certain areas of our life such as "Money, or Career" that you are more comfortable operating behind the scenes? Why is that?

Realize that when you operate from behind the scenes vs upfront you are closing your self off. You are Not open.

Pick an area of your life that you know that you are operating from behind the scenes. Today, have the intention to switch this behavior and operate upfront and open! See what happens when you open up and move/operate in this "unknown, unfamiliar and uncomfortable" area.

Doing this will give you a big, huge insight into what it is like to "experience or feel" emotional energy that you normally repress in Fear. As a side benefit of this you will experience how to reverse or open up to healing this pain disorder.

So today have it your intention, your discipline to operate upfront in a particular area of your life that is normally occupied with fear. As you do this, as you go into this unknown yet emotionally transforming act stay present/conscious as much as you can. Resist the conditoned urge to "become overly self-conscious, judge, withdrawal, or control/manipulate". See what happens when you do not go into the old, conditioned behavior pattern and stay upfront, open and honest. It is well worth the effort.

Monte Hueftle

http://www.runningpain.com

monte@runningpain.com

Notice where your energy is when you are waiting...

Appropriate msg from Myss:

"Recognize that you are always waiting for something and that waiting is stressful and foolish"
-----------------------------

In this disorder, waiting communicates non-acceptance, which, understand automatically "feeds" the pain disorder. why? - the very fact you are waiting is telling this disorder you believe somehow this will eventually go away without you changing.

Waiting is also a form of repression. It usually has a companion like depression, which seems to go back into the past with regrets, resentment, and anger.

Or it's companion might be "searching" which is usually in the future in worry or "savior day-dreaming" which is idle foolishness that you again you are wishing for the end of pain while not commiting any change to your self.

In either case a person in this mode is denying, resisting, or avoiding what is present right now.

Check to see if you are in a waiting mode and what kind. This closing off, holding in of emotional energy is the initiator of inner stress/tension within our system. It gets the ball rolling so to speak.

The key, the big, huge this is what I need to learn/do/be...is to begin to recognize how you repress your emotional energy and then investigate it a little...ask why...and then have the intention to stop these repressing activities...they are always conditioned mental habits closely tied to the striving, controlling, competing, perfecting, worrying, overly self conscious personality.

Now this is important...when you have the intention to identify and stop these repression activities, which begins the reversal of this pain disorder, you then Must take action. Yes, you can not just have the intention and then hope it happens. This is what Myss is referring to when she says it is Difficult...But remember it is also Essential.

Remember, if you are going to reverse this pain disorder you Must change the cause of the inner tension, which is the mental repression activities, which is your inner dialogue running wild in fear, anger, worry, confusion...You can stop these negative, conditioned habits. Yes you can. And it will stop your pain disorder. Yes it will. This is truth.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

bring the highest energy to...

Trust that where you are in your life right now is where you are suppose to be!

Trust that what you are feeling/experiencing in your body right now is on a purpose.

Instead of trying to figure out what that purpose is, live right now bringing the best of your self to each situation, with each person, and to every response you have.

If you want to monitor something today, do just that...monitor the energy that you bring to each person, situation and response in your life...have the Intention to bring the highest energy (best of your self) to your life today.

and every time you find yourself going back to "if only i had done this, or if only that had not happened" bring your self back....and every time you find your self going..."some day every thing will be okay, i know this will end, then my life will be back on track" bring your self back.

have no agenda today accept to bring the highest energy ( the best of your self) to every moment.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

What pain spell are you under?

Are you under a pain spell? It's worth investigating.

Absolutely the one I hear most from people with tension induced pain is, " I have tension pain, I know that, but it's different than anyone else...I've never read/heard about anyone having a pain sensation like mine. So, do you really think this is tension pain?"

Think about that statement...they have accepted the diagnosis of tms, but they want to give themselves an "Out". Why an Out...I suspect so that they will not be disappointed if there "new" healing program doesn't work for them. Of course they don't realize that they have just guaranteed it won't work for them....

And then there is this doozy of a spell. "I'll start my new healing program when I'm absolutely sure this is what I have" or slightly diff. version, "when I'm absolutely sure this will work, then I will start"

And finally and I say finally because when you realize you are under this spell you are actually sooo close to being ready to really start healing that I just want to "push" you over the edge...and it is the realization that...

"I love to read about, think about this, discuss on message boards this healing path, But I don't actually want to do anything about it. I want someone else to fix this for me, I going to stay interested but eventually someone will develop the magic pill and I wo't have to do all this "inner" work" This is a big one.
You probably notice that some type of fear is at work here in these spells.

If you find yourself under one of these spells it is worth investigating why you choose to remain there.

How do you break these spells? You know the answer it is now just a choice.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Nothing will move/change in our painbody...

Nothing will move/change in our painbody until we move/change in our inner self.

What is keeping you from accessing your inner self? How come what you have used to recover is so different than anything that doc Sarno teaches. Btw, I loved it when you were on the TMS board many years ago as a regular poster. I am still stuck with my pain as of 5 years now and I just don't know what to do to rid myself of it.

Many thanks56Gzn3

2007-02-01 01:23:56 GMT

Yes, you must get rid of the repressing way of thinking (resentments, judgements ect.) you must. just knowing about them doesn't work, right?

i am not saying anything differenent than sarno says...sarno believes that you can just learn about tms and the thing is over.....not the case....take yourself as perfect example....90% of the people i work with are just like you. so when Sarno says..."think psychologically" I am trying to explain to you thru my practice and experience what that really means.....sarno says repressed anger is cause of pain right? well, how do you know your are repressing? how do you stop repressing? how do you expereince or feel this emotioanl energy instead of generating/creating more of the pain? this is what I expand on....no different than sarno, just expanding on...

realize where I am coming from. I learned about this tms stuff from sarno, I partially healed by knowing/understanding his info....but then I had to expand on "think psychologically" to become pain free...and now I have been pain free for 4+ years. I am sharing experiential knowledge of the way this dynamic disorder plays with your life.

I have taken sarno and put myss, zukov, pert, chopra, tolle and others practice of emotional healing into a practice that you can incorp. into your life every moment and begin reversing this pain disorder. u don't want to get caught into the trap that all you need to know is what tms is and think psych. instead of injury...this is not enough to heal a person from this disorder usually...

you may want to heed a common msg from me and get off the "never ending searching wondering doubting" msg boards...i am telling you that this "feeds" your pain strategy more than helps you...take a look at your history....still in pain and it's been 5 years! something to think about.

--Monte Hueftle

http://www.runningpain.com

monte@runningpain.com

Present Time - This is where you put your determination/energy

"Experience how difficult it is to live in present time. Healing is rapidly enhanced when you are focused in the present." Caroline Myss

This quote from Myss really really states where you must have your focus/attention/energy to heal from tension induced pain caused by inner stress/tension.

Read her quote again and again and realize that this is a Big Deal. How Big of a deal is it? This is Great Big Huge! It is the KEY, yes it is the Key that so many of you want to grasp onto. So begin to realize and expereince this key to healing and understand that you can not grasp onto it.

For those that struggle with healing from this pain disorder, this is usually your biggest challenge. This area of staying focused in present time is where you must use your will-power, your determination and persistence.

Being focused in the present is the Only way that you can apply the Emotional Awareness that is discussed in Chapt. 5,6,7, 7+ and allow them to begin the reversal of this pain disorder.

Get what I am saying here...there is no other way to be aware of how you are being, meaning how you are repressing than to be present/mindful aware of it. And there is no other way to experinece your emotion/feeling that allows it to be free/open/ and creating health than to be mindful in the present.

It is not possible to stop repressing and it is not possible to start experiencing your emotional energy unless you are present. This is why you must put all your energy/willpower/determination/persistence into this practice. This is why this is such a big huge deal. Don't let it be why you do not heal because it is your choice in every moment.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Accept the fact that you and your life are going to change...

Accept the fact that you and your life are going to change...
If you are on this path of healing from tension induced pain And if you just wanted one little tidbit of information to help you---it's this.

Accept the fact that in order to heal--reverse the pain disorder, that you and your life are going to change...And you may not like all the changes. And those around you make not like all the changes. But this is a must if you want to end the pain and it is Truth.

What do I mean by changes?
--The way you think
--The way you live un-conciously or un-mindfully of who you are being
--The amount of energy you are going to have to put into watching and listening to your inner chatter.
--The amount of energy/determination you are going to use to stop and change this pain generating chatter
--The fact you may have to get up 30 min. or 1 hours earler every day to journal or do yoga. This is "think psychologically" vs injury think.

a key component of this certain way of thinking is to be sincerely grateful for this signal. the key is "sincere". saying to your self, "thank you for reminding me to be present/aware" with true gratefulness is a powerful communication to the pain disorder that you truly do accept that this is a mental/emotional pain disorder and the cause is Your repressed emotional energy and not a muscle imbalance or disc problem or nerve damage or over-training injury.

the number of inquiries I get about this is crazy. "do i really have to be grateful for the pain"...my response is always the same...if you accept the real cause of this disorder and if you accept that someone or thing "out there" is not going to fix you...then the absolute best way to communicate this to your self and this pain strategy is to be truly grateful....i am saying this... vs just mouthing the words to your self with no integrity because you read in a book that is what you are suppose to do. this mouthing/repeating of words will get you nothing.

this is a huge deal, not a little one. be grateful because you understand the workings of this disorder....then the inner working of this disorder will begin to guide you away from the pain and into a deeper meaning.

Bless your difficulties and ask to see their hidden guidance. It's Not!

Today you can start changing your thts...When you catch yourself complaining or judging---Stop and have the intention not to judge/complain.

When you catch yourself in worry mode...Stop make the choice to leave the worry behind and get into present moment thinking/action.

Whenever you find your mind in the past...bring it back to now.
In the future...bring it back to now.

Do you think these little changes are no Big deal? They are Huge! Really Huge!

Maybe you read that sarno says you don't/can't change you personality? that is correct. you are not going to change your personality, but you can change your repressing thought patterns. you can change your repressing thts that are in the past and in the future. you can bring your attention/focus back to the present moment, which is the only place you can heal.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Impt. words about your pain or any illness for that matter.

Illness can be a teacher, companion, or challenge-but not a punishment.
Caroline Myss

All to often we view our pain as something we are paying for a certain way of being or action. Yes, you can learn about tms and it goes away.

Now go back to the real cause--repressed emotions...if you learned about tms and got the subc. effect however you did nothing to eliminate what caused this disorder to appear in your life in the first place...what have you done?

you most likely are still repressing emotional energy.

I consult with so many people who read Sarno 5 and 10 years ago and the pain went away and now it is back in their life and they can't get rid of it. why?

They are still repressing emotional energy...they never learned how they were causing this pain in their life...and now they are getting another opportunity..

The problem is, they want it to work like it did the first time...read a book and the pain disappears...but this time it doesn't work....not because it is not tms and something else....no, it isn't working because this person is still chronically repressing emotional energy---and most people do this with their tht patterns....so yes you have to change or switch your tht patterns....you will still be competitive, perfetionistic ect. ect. but you can and have to stop repressing.

so, going back to the problem....when they re-read sarno or schecter or sopher and this time it doesn't work, they panic, they doubt, they begin to fear and then start Searching for what is wrong Now...and of course this type of thinking and behavior just Feeds the pain strategy....you basically are breaking Rule # 1 of healing from this disorder---instead of thinking psychologically you are focused on how someone or thing can figure this out and fix you---and of course this is Distracting you from the real cause your emotional energy, your feelings...

When you can accept that this is a emotional-mental disorder, and that means your thoughts and feelings are creating and maintaining this pain disorder, then you can begin to make Real progresss....because when you accept this Truth, you stop looking, searching outside, stop reading and re-reading all the tms stuff you already know and you begin to CHANGE your mental thought patterns of repression.

Monte Hueftle
monte@runningpain.com
http://www.runningpain.com

In Response to David McG...

Entry for January 1, 2007 - In response to David McG...
The pain is a signal to become aware. It also is a distraction in this strategy to keep you focused on the body and away from the real cause you emotional energy.

If oxygen deprivation is the bio-chemical event in our system causing our pain symptoms...And It Is...., it is our nervous systems response to inner tension....inner tension is emotional energy (an emotion or feeling) that is not being experiened... Our internal response to this is a restriction of blood vessels which caused less oxygen to be distributed to muscle and nerve tissue....and this is painful.

Re: change....if you can just read about, know and understand tms and be painfree then that would be great and we would not be having this discussion...people that can learn about tms...And Fully Accept It...Do get a subconscious effect...somtimes this is enough but usually it is not. Most people even though they understand this, still treat it like a "injury" that someone else should be able to fix, or they take a medication and it's gone. This is a Personal mental and emotional disorder that is created uniquely by Each Individual experiencing it. Yes, there are common traits that we have like the type a personalilty, but this is an individual experience and each person must do thier own INNER WORK.

However, I work with so many that did experience this once, maybe 1, 3, or 5 yrs ago and now pain is back...they still understand and accept the tms diagnosis but now they can't get rid of the pain...Why? because they have not learned emotional awareness or how they repress their emotions...so yes they have to change the way they think...if you keep complaining, judging, having angry outburst, worrying about everything, being overly self-conscious, then guess what, you are going to keep emotional energy bottled up in your body and you are going to experience pain.

EVEN though you know this is TMS and EVEN though you understand this disorder; IF you are repressing emotions while you know all this you are still creating and maintaing pain.

Sarno and I say the same thing, I just take it a little further on the emotional side. You will not change your personality, but you can learn to be more present, mindful and aware of when you are complaining, worrying, ect. ect, and you can stop BEING that way and instead be more OPEN.

So you can change your conditoned thought patterns which may be repressing your emotions and are almost always in the past or in the future and are rarely present moment based.

This is why I continue to repeat to people that you already know everything you need to know about tms and the strategy. Get to know your self and how you experience emotional energy....this is not some BIG disorder that has to be beaten....it is an individual mental and emotional way of processing your thts and feeelings....one is open, flowing and pain-free and one is closed, represssing and painful.

Monte Hueftle

Step #2: Identify Your Unique ways of Denying, Avoiding and Repressing...

Step #2: Identify your unique ways of Denying, Avoiding and Repressing your emotions. They read his books, saw his video, listened to his tapes, or personally met with him.

Yet they are still in pain! Why? They know what tms is and they know that they have repressed emotions, yet why can they not "fix" this pain disorder for good?

Most people do not know how they repress their emotional energy and they have no idea how to un-repress it...and then because of this delimma they start searching, doubting, wondering, thinking, becoming more frustrated (basically keep feeding the pain disorder).

Step #1.
Investigate and learn everything you can about and get comfortable with your unique personality traits/behaviors. This is Emotional Awareness 101. Become aware of your External Stressors, Personality Traits and your Internal Repressors (this is your patterns of: worry, complaining, judging, resenting, thts in past, thts in future. This is your daily chatter/drama that takes up about 90% of your thinking. Start observing it, watching it, listening to it.

If your intention is to heal, to get rid of your pain, you absolutely must start with this step. Emotional Awareness. You must start here. Need some help? Read and journal Chapter 6. Re-read the November newsletter. This can be found in the appendix. No need to rush through this process or think that you already know this part of yourself. Spend a lot of quality time with this and it will make the other steps much more efficent and effective.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

It's the so-called normal everyday thinking...

It is the so-called normal everyday thinking patterns of: worry, controlling, striving, complaining and grasping, searching for a fix, and being overly self-conscious that has created and maintains your painful experiences.

When we begin to recognize these thought patterns as our unique repressing agents that are involved in initiating and maintaining our pain, we can begin to interupt and switch these patterns from repression to experiencing.

During a recent consultation a person brought up some major issures from their past. These were issures from 20 yrs ago with
mother, father and brother. This person knew their issues that needed to be opened up. He fully accepted and understood that he was being closed off and repressing this emotional energy.

What he did not know was that it was the everyday thinking about these issues: the complaining, resenting, worry, and need to please, was keeping this emotional energy stuck and blocked in his system. this was how he was repressing his emotions. The resenting and complaining was always in the past and the worry and need to please was always in the future. It is impossible to experience and issue, to feel this emotional energy in the past or future, it must be experienced in the present moment.

Yes we need to open up and communicate with our issures. In order to do this we must recognize our so-called normal thinking patterns of repression are the agents that keep this painful energy stuck within us. As we get stuck in these future and past thinking patterns our energy/issues remain stuck.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Where is your focus (energy)

Remember to keep your focus in the present moment as much as possible today. Always, always have a strategy that you can switch your focus (energy) to something that makes you feel good. When you do this allow this feel good energy to be with you in whatever you are doing.

Keep your focus (energy) off of certain conditions that have not changed yet (physical pain). When we focus, worry, react and try to control this unchanged condition we are feeding the condition with more of the same. Want more pain and frustration? Worry about it, react to it with "how am I going to fix this" thts, try to control with physical treatments...Remember this is how we continue to feed this pain strategy.

Use pain as a Signal to be aware. Acknowledge and be grateful for this signal. Switch your focus (thts) to "what am I feeling right now", and be with that feeling, respect it.

Now switch your focus to somehting that makes you feel good--A major Want or a self-appreciation quality. Generate the thts that ingnite this good feeling and now feel this feeling and allow it to be with you as much as possible.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

My very sore achilles tendon...

My very sore achilles tendon has nothing to do with tension induced pain and everything to do with why we don't heal!

Long story-short: I severely turned my ankle 18 months ago. I had x-rays and knew that nothing was broken. The ankle took about a 12 week rehab to where I could train for LA marathon. I preceded to avg 100 mi weeks of fairly intense training for
five months leading up to LA. Ran LA and kept training for another couple of months-April-May of 2006. No ankle or tendon problems at all during this entire period. I have been running for over 25 yrs and have never had an achilles injury.

June and July were easy months of running averaging anywhere from 30-50 mi weeks at a low intensity.
In july I began to notice my achilles tendon was sore while I was driving my car. I would gently massage the tendon and Wow, it was really sore. I ignored it since I was not training for anything and it did not effect my running.

August I started to train again and my achilles was getting worse, I mean it was really sore to the touch. Since I knew that I had not injured it and I knew it was not tension related I was certain it would go away fairly easily just as it had appeared.

As I stepped up my running in Sept. I came to the realization that I needed to do something to heal it. I started to ice and self-massage a couple of times per day, with asprin every now and then, however, I would go days with doing nothing as well. As you can figure the tendon did not get better or worse it just remained an annoyance to my training. My ( laziness, ignorance, waiting and hoping) lasted for all of Oct and half of Nov.

Finally I was really frustrated. To the point that I had to get this fixed. And I almost started searching for someone when I decided to make a dedicated intention to myself to put and keep my attention on my self-treatments.

Here is my point. This is where many of you are in healing from tension induced pain. Usually it is the ultimate frustration that allows you in some way to even accept the tension induced pain diagnosis. Yet, while accepting it, you are still waiting, hoping, expecting somehow that the pain will just go away. You have accepted the diagnosis, but are not even remotely ready for the comittment it is going to take to heal.

Okay, so I began to ice and self massage, and foam roll 4-5 times per day, every day. I stepped up my self-treatments from a casual 10 minutes a day to anywhere from 2-4 hours per day. Yes, I would massage 4-5 times per day for 10-15 mins. and I would ice for 4-5 times for 20 min. each time. No days off, not even half days off. And guess what, within a week I had reduced the swelling significantly and was back to running without the soreness/stiffness in the tendon. And here I am today
1 week later with almost no signs of achilles tendinitis. just a little stiffness in the morning.

Even when we are aware of a problem, be it tension induced or an injury, if we go into that (waiting, lazy, hoping, searching) mode---nothing is going to happen except more frustration and pain.

Cheeck your self....where is your acceptance and where is your attention and where is your comittment. You just may find your solution within you.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Becoming Emotionally Aware Is Not A Big Deal...

Becoming Emotionally Aware Is Not A Big Deal.

Emotional Awareness is where you must start in healing from chronic pain caused by repressed emotional energy, however,

just learning about how you repress your emotions, how you habitually react to tension filled life situations, or compulsively live your day is usually not enough to transform your painbody.

The Big Deal is once you become aware of these emotional/personality dynamics is too take action to switch/change/interupt them so that you stop repressing (generating pain) and start opening up/freeing up your energy.

This is a big deal because only you can do it. And let's face facts, most people read in a book or have someone tell them that if they Think a certain way and repeat certain phrases that they will change their life.

And they are right!

Except they forgot to tell you that You need to believe it when you say it. Not only that, you need to Feel it when you say it. Yes, it's the conviction and belief behind your words that contain the tranforming energy.

Self-talk is a very potent, life transforming therapy when you sincerely apply it with feeling. And then when you get in the feeling you remain there as much as possible. You allow that feeling energy to stay with you--in your doing.

You can repeat, "I want to feel good, I intend to feel good, I want to be pain-free" and get absolutely no benefit from it. However, you can say to yourself, "I intend to feel good, I intend to feel myself walking/running in a healthy, balanced way, I love how free and open my body feels when I exercise, I'm excited by the freedom of moving openly and freely"

Now, if you get into that feeling place where you feel the openness, the free-ness and alive-ness of being in that place--guess what? you are generating and attracting energy that will transform you healing experience.

Words with no emotion/feeling have no power, in fact they lead to doubt and fear lack of faith...Let your thts, your self-talk lead you into a place where you can feel the positive energy (feelings)...It's the feelings that transform you.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

The most important question to ask yourself...

The most important question that you can ask your self every day, every moment, is:

What am I feeling right now. Think and grow rich. As a man thinketh, so is he. Think Big.

If you are challenged with chronic pain caused by inner tension? Thinking is the problem, not the solution.

Why? because most of your thinking is un-conscious drama in the past digging up resentment or anger...or it is in the future
thinking about how this is going to work, what if this happens, or when this happens then all is okay. (worry, expectation, self-consciousness, controlling)

The big problem with all this thinking is that this is how you repress your emotions. You repress your emotions with your conditioned mental patterns of thinking. You think this is normal & natural because everyone does it.

Then we go thinking for ways to fix all this stuff. more thinking, more repressing, more pain.

How do we get out of this mess? Use your thinking to help you become aware of your self? "what am I feeling right now?
and then really feel what you are feeling right now. that is not thinking, that is experiencing what you are feeling.

Use your thinking to switch from low energy (complaining, judging, resenting, searching, controlling) to a higher energy thought. (appreciation, gratitude, contribution,) or switch to something that makes you feel good. Think about something you want that you know when you get that want it will make you feel good.

Why would you want to do that? So that you can be in that feel good place. Use your thoughts to switch from repressing thought patterns which never make you feel good---just try it, when you are complaining, judging, angry, controlling, worrying,...ask yourself how you feel and then take a moment to feel how you feel?

now think about something you appreciate about yourself. think about something you are grateful for, think about something you really want and now image that you have it....how do those thts make you feel? now feel that way. stay in that feeling.

now, quit analyzing this exercise. intellectualism is a repression activity. and realize that you are what you feel. you are what you feel. what you feel is real. let your thinking get you out of repression and into a feeling place....any feeling place and then feel. stop thinking and just experience what you feel.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Why Sarno Does Not Always Work!

There is a reason that 90% of the people I work with have read, listened to, viewed, visited with Dr. John Sarno and his information And are still in pain.

This is not a knock on Sarno's info.

Understand that learning about, becoming aware of the cause of TMS or chronic pain caused by inner stress/tension/anxiety is usually not enough to heal from it. It's not! Yes, the first step is too learn about this chronic pain disorder.

But what if you don't get that sub-conscious effect? Or what if you did get that sub-conscious effect the first time you learned about this disorder but now your pain is back and reading and re-reading Sarno is not working?

Realize that the cause of this disorder (chronic pain) is repressed emotional energy. And it is your conditioned mental patterns of thinking (mental repression activities) that are repressing this energy and generating and maintaining your pain!

So, if you did not get the pain relief from reading about this disorder, it is now time to understand that you Must interupt/switch your mental repression activities...you do this so that you learn how to stop repressing and you then learn how to feel/experience your emotional energy.

A book, therapist, video, ect. will not do this....you have to learn how to do it and then YOU have to do it. Yes, that's the part of this practice that sucks! And it the reason so many are still in pain. Somebody can't do it for you. Now, that's also a good thing, because you can start right now!

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

I just wish the pain would go away.

Do you ever think that way? Maybe most of the time? This is why you are still in this chronic pain mess!

This type of thinking, wishing, searching is the easist way to Avoid, Deny, and Resist the Real Cause of this disorder.

But, unfortunately we have been conditioned to think this way. However, if you are reading this blog, you know that this type of
communication with your self is How you generate, maintain and continue to Feed this pain strategy.

Mental Repression Activities such as: Worry, Controlling, always trying to please, overly self-conscious, compulsively striving, searching for the fix, expecting the outcome a certain way and in a certain time, having your thoughts back in the past or forward into the future alot are Repressing Agents....You must identify these in your self. And then you must learn how to stop/replace them...

When you do that you stop the mental repression activity and this Gives you the opportunity to Feel/Experience your Emotional Energy instead of repressing it (creating pain).

If you get anything, Get that concept and start practicing it. This is the way out of pain. And for the love of your body stop wishing the pain will go away or that someone is going to fix it. that is not going to happen.

I devote four (4) chapters to: How to Identify your unique mental repression activities, How to stop them, How to replace them, and how to experience/feel your emotional energy instead of repressing it. This is all in the second edition of Get Rid Of The Pain In Your Butt NOW! 7-Steps And 10-Days To A Feel Good Body And Life.

No that is not a plug, well, I guess it is in a way. The point being, I devote over 100 pages on insights, strategies, practices on how to do this, so it's impossible to say everything in this post.

Stop wishing, stop analyzing, stop searching and start investigating/practicing what is going on within you!

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

How are you communicating to your self?

Have you looked in on how you communicate with your self? This can be a really impt. insight...

When you have a meeting with your self--and ask a question like, "what am I feeling right now"? What hapens?

Do you keep thinking about this? investigating it? Do you come up with a quick one-liner and then move on?

What I am getting at, is when you ask that very impt. question "what am I feeling right now", can you be sincere, open, and trusting with your self?

Or does this or a similiar question lead to "i'm too busy/stressed to think about that right now", "i'm fine, just a little frustration, everything will be okay tomorrow".

Take a look at how you sincerely communicate with your self. Is it open, sincere, trusting and are you taking some "quality time" to investigate how you feel?

If not, then you also now have a very good idea of how you communicate to others---people and situations.

And now, realize that all of this communication, with your self, relationships, and jobs is also Directly communicating with this pain disorder. Yes, it really is, there is no differnce.

When you are closed off to your self. Your system is closed off. Closed off to others. Your stystem is closed off.

Ask your self again, what am i feeling right now. sincerely investigate that. be curious. and then stop thinking about it and start feeling how you feel. use curious questions to go deeper. but remember this is now a feeling thing and not a thinking analyzing thing. If you feel frustrated, sad, excited, buzzed, then feel that. Feel it.

When you are open, trusting, sincere with your self, your system becomes open, trusting, and sincere with you. This is a big part of the transformation of this disorder. And for most of us who prefer to go the thinking path becasue that is what seems normal, comfortable and of course will allow us to ultimately find a fix. That's wrong thinking and painful, but that's how and what we think almost all the time. But that's what allows us to Not feel. And that is the big challenge in all of this.

First, learn to experience (feel) what you are feeling---good or bad, positive or negative, high or low--Allow yourself to feel.
Your conditioned tendency is to Avoid the feeling, because usually it is something we don't want and then we go into our
thinking mode of: (worry, complain, judge, control, resentment, searching, ect.)

We do this because that is how we have been taught/conditioned to fix our problems/conditions. At anytime you can choose to start feeling what you are feeling. Instead of going into our repressive thinking modes switch to your feeling mode. It's there. Instead of complaining or worrying begin by asking yourself what am I feeling right now. Why am I feeling this way.
What is going on with me right now. Resist the urge to go into more worry or complaining and feel what feeling is present with you.

It is the feeling experience that opens us up. Frees us. When we can accept our feelings, even the so-called negative ones, it allows us then to switch our thinking, reset our attention onto what we do want.

If you want to change the conditions of your life you have to change your energy. Negative, low, repressed energy attracts and maintains Pain.

Positive, high, open and free energy attracts the same open, freee, feel good conditions that you want. Always remember that thinking in low, repression patterns , which is not feeling attracts pain, or what we don't want.

The way you think is the way you feel....Think in repressing ways--attract repressing feelings---pain!

Think about the outcome you Really want so that you can feel that high, open, free feeling. It's the feelings that attract back to you and that transform your condition.

Thinking starts the process and you control that focus...then come the feelings from that focus...and it's these feelings that
give you what you want or don't want....the good news is that is up to you....where is your focus?

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Stop Thinking & Searching and Start Feeeeling...

Understanding and then Implementing this one simple practice will dramatically change your body and your life.

Yes, thinking, our thoughts are the instigator in this pain disorder. Imagine you are a light bulb and you are using 10% of your energy worrying about a project you need completed in two weeks; and you are giving 20% to your career in general because you are so frustrated you really want to be doing something else; 10% goes to your parents for the way they treated you 30 years ago; 15% to your spouse/friend for not supporting you; 10% goes back to not taking that “perfect” opportunity 10 years ago that would have assuredly changed your life for the better; 20% goes to wondering how you are going to get rid of these chronic injuries someday; and another 10% worries about why you worry so much... So you wind up with a whopping grand total of 5% of your energy to use in present time. That's not a lot of juice to put into creating in the present time. And now realize that healing is a present time activity and you can pretty easily figure out why you may still be stuck!

Monte Hueftle
monte@runningpain.com
http://www.runningpain.com

Everyday "normal" chronic negativity...

Are you normal? Just like everyone else? Complain some, judge a little, controll a lot, fairly conscientious of what everybody else thinks about you whle striving to get here and there, spending a lot of time worrying about this and resenting that? That's normal life, right?

That is the normal life of a person experiencing chronic pain. Normal, everyday, low energy, negative thoughts and feelings produce Normal everyday stiffness, tightnesss, soreness, low back, high shoulder, sciatica, and butt pain.

There is no need to go looking for that big, huge, tramatic, experience that happened when you were 9 yrs old to heal from this pain disorder. This chronic physical pain disorder is caused by chronic, everyday, low energy, negative, repressing thoughts and mental behaviors that cause us to "feel" low, sad, worthless, angry, down, life-less, hopeless, and accept that "oh well, that's life, I'll adjust...This is not natural....it may appear normal because you are use to and comfortable living that way, and it seems like most everyone else is in that same state---however this way you feel is a direct effect of how you are thinking on a moment to moment basis compounded over the years.

Like attracts Like. Low energy, negative thoughts and behaviors cause low health, low feeling--(which we repress) and pain.
High energy, positive thoughts and behaviors cause high health, high feelings and a open, feel good body.

This is the most important element to understand if you are experiencing chronic pain.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Excuse Me But What Can I Do Today?

I get this question everyday multiple times. Realize that if you have read my book Get Rid Of The Pain In Your Butt NOW or any other tms book, you already know everything you need to know-and probably more--about what tms or tension/stress indcued pain is.

For some reason, we're either lazy, scared or just wanting someone or thing to fix us while we sit back and watch---usually it is all three of these--we keep searching and grasping at what can I do or how do I get rid of this...

Remember, denying, avoiding, holding in, stuffing down--in other words repressing our emotional energy is the cause of this chronic pain disorder...And really remember that it is your unique personaility traits/behaviors of: controlling, worrying, complaining, judging, striving, expecting, perfecting, pleasing, all while being overly self conscious that is the way you are Repressing....If you get nothing else, Get That. Understand That.

Instead of feeling or experiencing our emotional energy--when this happens your energy is open and flowing and you are not creating pain, we allow our mind patterns to worry, judge, complain, search, strive, and be self conscioius.

When you find yourself in your repressing behavior modes or inner chatter---this is what you do---You stop it. You stay in the situation that you are in, but you experience that situation without the worry, or anger outburst, or self consciousness of what everyone else thinks....You must experience what happens when you stay in your life situation but leave behind the repressing mental behavior...

Simple yes. So don't dismiss it. Hard and challenging to do. Yes, at first, and once you start experiencing the openness you begin to realize that you can feel your feelings without the repressing mental behaviors---You must go into this unknown, uncertain but very natural place...Jump right in or tip toe in but get in there and try this. It is your choice to allow this transformation every moment. Yes, every single moment you can be transforming this pain disorder and getting rid of the pain.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Nothing Affects Our Physical Pain Except Our Energy Flow

Yep. Understand this: Nothing Affects Our Physical Pain Except Our Energy Flow.

Our Energy (thoughts & feelings) flow is either repressed, closed off, avoiding, & denying

OR

It is open and naturally free flowing. We know that repressed energy means pain and open-free flowing means naturally no-pain.

Simple right? Yes it is so simple. Not always easy though.

You want, your intention is to have your energy open and free flowing which results in a great feeling of no pain.

So you must focus on doing and being just that: Open. Open with yourself, being truthful with yourself.

You also have to know, be aware of when you are repressing, closed off, denying--so that you can change that to open - free flowing.

For today, start by focusing, paying attention to how you feel when you complain, judge, try to controll, be perfect, strive or grasp at something or someone, and worry about all this stuff. Get comfortable and used to recognizing how you are feeling when you are in these repressing modes...Are you feeling good? or do you feel like you are creating stress and tension in your life, and maybe that you are stuck and out of control---like in not able to control your chatter/inner dialogue...

For today, pay attention to how you feel when you are in these repressing modes. really get to know how it feels to try and control everything and worry about it and be self conscious about it....

Tomorrow we'll discuss why that is so important and then start to change it.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Chronic Repressing Thoughts = Chronic Pain

Are you in the process of watching and listening to your thoughts? If not, you should be, as it holds one of the keys to healing from this disorder.

Realize that chronic worry means that you are chronically repressing your feelings, which means you are creating chronic pain in your body.

Chronic angry outburst is not experiencing your feelings! Chronic angry outburst is a way to chronically repress your feelings and keep creating pain.

Same with chronic complaining, being chronically overly conscious, chonically controlling people and things, chronically trying to please others....you get the idea. Everyone of these chronic mental behaviors patterns are Repressing your feelings and keeping you in chronic pain.

Realize that you can choose to remain in these chronic behavior patterns or you can choose to stop them, change them and be mindful of your thoughts and actions. Instead of having an angry outburst you can stay present in the moment and feel what happens when you Don't go into outburst mode. When you catch yourself in chronic worry mode, you can stop and shift into
present moment awareness and experience what happens when you don't worry.

Realize that when you experience your energy (feelings) by Not going into your Repression mode, you are transforming your pain disorder. Instead of being closed you are opening up. Instead of having emotions stuck inside you creating pain they can start flowing. This is how you heal from this disorder.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

Energy (thoughts) in the Now is the Healing Transformation

Having your energy in the now, the present moment, is the transformation out of chronic pain caused by inner tension/anxiety! In speaking about energy, what I am really saying is, where are your thoughts--what people, places, things, situations are you spending your energy on?

Would you like to have most of your energy available to you to help you get out of pain?

This is what you do. Draw a stick person on a piece of paper--the stick person is you. Next, draw a line out from you to where you are giving a lot of your energy. For example you may have a line out to a project at work, and one out to a specific relationship that is rocky at the moment, ect.. Keep doing this and label approximately how much enegy you are giving to this area of your life..You should get pretty close to 100% of your energy going somewhere.

Now, how much of that energy (thoughts) is Present time energy, or Energy (thoughts) in the Now, that is available to help you heal? Don't be suprised if it is less than 5%...

Take some time and investigate why you have energy going out to these External things and away from you....Yes, this is a way of repressing or you are allowing yourself to go outside while you deny or avoid your inner self...

Do you have any idea what happens when you call or bring this energy back to your inner self? It is amazing and it is transforming. So here is what you can do...For example the energy that is chronically focused on work/project--Make the choice to cut off that line you have drawn or image it as a circuit and turn that circuit off...Now image that energy that was focused on work/project/relationship/finances/past resentments/future expectations coming back to you...Yes you can image this by visualizing it or sensing it, or feeling it or just knowing it is coming back to you.

When you bring it back your intention is now to keep it with you for awhile...You do this by being mindful or present in whatever you are doing...Keep your energy with you in the now and whenever you notice it is attached somewhere outside, just bring it back again..

This is a very powerful, healing practice that you can have with you all the time...Remember if your energy is outside of you it is not helping you heal and it is actually helping to maintain your pain cycle. When you call your energy (thoughts) back you are communicating to this disorder that you are responsible and open to helping yourself heal.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com
monte@runningpain.com

A Daily Mindful Practice

Being mindful, or being conscious of who and how you are being is a moment to moment daily practice of being Truthful with yourself.

It is the opposite of being un-conscious of who/how you are being.

When you are being truthful with yourself you are open and expierencing what emotional energy is present...When you are un-conscious or choosing to allow your mental patterns to run rampant...You are repressing this emotional energy.

It is always your choice to be open and honest with yourself or to let it go unattended and cause repression and pain.

Monte Hueftle
http://www.runningpain.com

The Whole Idea About Being Mindful or Conscious...

The whole idea about being mindful or conscious is so that you can become aware of your repression activities in present time.

This allows you the opportunity to then Interupt/Stop this activites.

Once you stop the repression activities (stop creating the pain cycle) you then can allow yourself to experience what had been repressed emotional energy.

However, now you are in Present Time experierencing this energy (which opens up your system and allows energy to flow freely). This dynamic response is attributed to the subc. mind's response to a person now learning and understanding the Real Cause (repressed emotional energy). Realize that most of this, if not all of the repression is occurring in the subc. or not in your conscious awareness.

What happens when you don't get this positive response initially and you know that inner tension/stress is the cause? It means you have to go to work...on yourself. You have to discover how you are repressing this emotional energy (usually through chronic mental behavior patterns) and then begin to change this repression.

I get this question a lot...Why am I not getting the subc. effect now, I did 3 years ago when I first learned about this.
I suspect because you never really changed your repression acitivities...The most impt. key to understand in order to heal from this disorder is: You must accept the real cause (repressing emotions). You must then communicate this acceptance through your actions. That means you stop searching for outside treatments/drugs/docs that will somehow magically cure you. And start investigating your inner self and how it is represing so that you can begin to change the repression (pain creating) into non-repression (open, truthful, free-flowing, present moment communication with yourself).

Monte Hueftle
www.runningpain.com

Your Biography Becomes Your Biology

Your Biography (beliefs, attitudes, memories, thoughts, feelings) becomes your Biology (sore back, sciatica, piriformis, stiffness, and pains sensations throughout your body--hip, back, butt, legs, knees, feet.

Understanding, Believing and then Knowing this Truth is at the Core of healing from chronic physical pain caused by inner stress and tension.

Realize that emotions are physical occurences in your body! What a terrific interview on The Big Idea last night. Dr. Weil is quoted in my book, Get Rid Of The Pain In Your Butt NOW!,
which you can read about at http://www.runningpain.com. And btw, the 2nd edition is almost complete with even more excellent healing information. Dr. Weil states that he believes almost all back pain is the result of emotional factors!

Back to The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. Deutsch asked Dr. Weil to give him some tips to relieve stress/tension quickly and efficiently. Dr. Weil responds that his favorite exercize/practice, which cost nothing and is very powerful is Conscious Breath Work. He goes on to say that this is not taught in medical school and is over-looked as an effective treatment because it is so Simple...

Conscious Breathing: 1. Can instantly bring more peace and stillness into your system. 2. It is a conscious, mindful, present moment activity. That means a lot. It is absolutely the most efficient means to become present in the moment. Which means if you were in a repressing emotion pain causing mode, that when you become mindful of your breath you give yourself the opportunity to Stop Repressing and start feeling or experiencing your emotions. 3. Mindful, conscious breathing gets you out of the past (anger or resenting chatter) and out of the future (worry or expecting chatter) and once again gives you the opportunity to be present. Realize that you repress emotions (create pain) when you are denying/resisting your emotions, which is usually happening when you are un-aware. so the more you can be present and mindful the more oppty's you have to open your self up to experiencing emotions and stopping the pain cycle.

Try not to overlook the most powerful and efficient tool that you have available to use ---your Breath. This is why I specifically have preached in newsletters, emails, consultations and in Chapt. 5, 6, 7 and 8 of my book how important and powerful this simple practice is.

Monte Hueftle

The Wrong Diagnosis - Zach Braff on Jay Leno

Have you ever wondered how with all of our expertise and technology that no one can find a effective treatment for chronic pain? Do you want to know how we spend in excess of $10 Billion dollars a year in treating chronic pain unsuccessfully?

It's quite simple. Our medical community does a very poor job of diagnosing the real cause of chronic physical pain disorders.

Zach Braff, the dude on Scrubs, was on Jay Leno the other night. Jay made mention that Zach had injured his back and inquired how it happened ect. Zach went on to say that he was a runner and that his doctor had suggested he had been running too much. The cause of his back pain....One of his legs is longer than the other! Anyone ever heard that before? And now Zach goes into this rant about his L-45 and all of that garbage.

This scenario plays out thousands of times per day, every day...The wrong diagnosis leads to treatments that don't work which leads to a chronic pain cycle that leads to more serching for someone or thing to fix it and all of this leads you away from the real cause.

Except you. Following are the Basics that Must be known, understood, and practiced if you intend to heal and eliminate your pain.

1. You must Accept the fact that the cause of pain in these disorders are repressed emotional and mental energy (thoughts and emotions). In the beginning you will need to work with this concept and start becoming aware of your outside stress factor and how they interact with your internal system (your personality and how it internalizes this stress/tension in your life).

2. The key to accepting this the real cause of pain is that it allows you to work with, investigate and focus your attention on your thoughts and feeligs...This is significant. In these pain disorders the pain sensations that you feel are notifying you that there is energy (emotions) that are stuck or blocked in your system. However, because of our past medical conditioning that pain means there is an injury or something wrong with our body, we almost immidiately seek treatments to fix our body....

Why is this wrong? Because we then take our attention off of the real cause (our thoughts and emotions) and look outside to a medical professional or treatment that can fix our body. Taking our attention/awareness off of the real cause allows this pain disorder to continue on in our life. That leads us to....

3. Which is you Must stop all physical treatments that you think or believe or treating your broken down body. Now, this is a hard one for most of you. Especially the athletes that are used to getting the over-use injury diagnosis, muscle imbalance, or strained/pulled muscle BS. Realize something....the pain is also a signal for you to Pay Attention to the real cause (your thoughts and emotions) so that you can become aware of How you are being and then make the appropriate changes. However, if you go looking for someone or some treatment to fix you, you are communicating to this disorder that you do not accept the real cause.

When this happens in these disorders, which as most of you experience is 99% of the time, you are stuck in and maintaining a Chronic Pain Cycle. You go from Doc to Doc, from treatment to treatment hoping for a fix that will end your pain. This is the chronic pain cycle that you probably find yourself in right now. Re-read 1-3 and investigate if you may be stuck in this cycle. If you need more information on this right away! It is to help you eliminate chronic pain from your life. Specifically chronic pain that is caused by repressed emotional and mental energy (your thoughts and emotions). Some of you know this as TMS or Tension Myosits Syndrome. It can also be diagnosed as Fibromyalgia or chronic physical pain caused by stress, tension or depression. The significant point is that this is chronic pain caused by psychological factors and not a physical injury, muscle imbalance, over-training or some other dysfunction of your body. This also means that the key to healing from these physical pain disorders is to treat or heal the cause (repressed emotional and mental energy). And you can not heal or eliminate this type of chronic pain through physical treatments. In fact, any type of treatment or thought process that focuses on your body or how someone or thing is going to fix your body, will keep you in pain.

Monte Hueftle
www.runningpain.com
